Joseph Allen, Ed.D.
Dr. Joseph Allen possesses over ten years of experience in Higher Education and is currently the Director of Community College Pathways at National University. Most recently, he served as the Director of Student Development & Engagement for over five years, and Adjunct faculty member for over two years, at Ashford University, a predominantly on-line University serving over 45,000 students. Joseph’s previous roles include Director of Student Affairs & Career Services, Director of Residential Life & Housing, International Student Advisor, Director of Student Development, and Adjunct Faculty member with the Art Institute.
Joseph leverages his early-career hospitality experience and foundation in student development theory to provide best in class programs and services to on-line and on-ground higher education institutions. Joseph recognizes that many students find themselves overwhelmed and frustrated by the processes institutions create. He maximizes available technologies and staff to mitigate those anxieties, including cultural shock, school-work-life balance, etc. Not only does this provide students with confidence and stability, it also helps institutions support and retain students frustrated with their online learning experiences.
Joseph’s higher education leadership expertise includes managing Student Affairs, Career Services, The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, Behavior Intervention, Residential Life, International Student Advising, Clubs & Organizations, Honor Societies, Peer Mentoring, Military Development & Engagement, and New Student Orientation.
Joseph’s educational background includes an Ed. D. in Community College Leadership from San Diego State University, a Masters of Arts in Post-Secondary Education Leadership with an Emphasis in Student Affairs from San Diego State University, and an Undergraduate degree in Parks and Recreation Management from Northern Arizona University.
