Catherine Spear, J.D.
As of August 2020, Catherine Spear serves as the Vice President for Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX at the University of Southern California (USC). In that role, Catherine is responsible for managing the University’s response to all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, as well as leading related proactive education and outreach programs that promote a safe and inclusive environment for all University community members. Prior to her new position at USC, Catherine served in a similar role as Associate Vice President for the Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights at the University of Virginia (UVA) for five years. Prior to UVA, she served as Stanford University’s first full-time Title IX Coordinator. Before Stanford, Catherine worked for 19 years at the Cleveland office for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR), the last five years as the OCR Cleveland Director. Catherine is a member of the ATIXA Advisory Board and the National Association of ADA Coordinators. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Dayton and a Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University.
